About the G shape
The G shape is the movable version of the familiar open G chord, with roots on the sixth, third, and first strings.
The full shape spans four frets, which makes it impractical to grip all at once. Instead, the G shape is played as two separate shapes: a bass shape on the lower-pitched strings and a treble shape on the higher-pitched ones.
The G shape shares its treble triad with the A shape: the A shape builds its chord behind that triad, while the G shape builds ahead of it.
